I spent a week in Fort Lauderdale, a year ago, and got a chance to head down to South Beach and photograph some the Art Deco buildings. I spent hours capturing the elements of these beautiful buildings. Even the railings and walkways are interesting. Some of the shots I converted to black and white to empasize the design and not be distracted by the deco colors.

I've Been Scanning in Old Negatives

I have kept all my old negatives and have started to scan them in. These are a few more of the pictures I took an a high school trip to Greece when I was 15. I'll do some further work to try and clean them up a bit more, but I'm impressed at the vision I had at that age for a shot.

I got in trouble up on the Acropolis in Athens. I got impulsive (no surprise to those who know me) and climbed over barriers to get this shot and the one of the carved head.

I'd like to get back there one day and compare the view now. I suspect it's very different. It's been fun finding these old pictures. I'll post more as I scan them in.

I've said before that I like to photograph design elements from classic cars. There are alotof challenges to photographing glossy or reflective surfaces. Glare and reflections can ruin a shot. Practise, practise, practise...and then you have to make sure that you have your depth of field right so that there is nothing too distracting in the background.

Glare can very quickly destroy the detail in some chrome work. This is an incredible car mascot, unfortunately some of the detail has been lost in the reflections and glare. Hopefully i find this car again this year at a car show and get another chance to get this piece captured well.

Keep checking back to see what's happening. I'll be posting regularly as I have new work ready. Thanks for all the support.

Favourite Places to Play with a Camera

I've said before that I enjoy photographing great design. Classic Car shows give me an opportunity to capture elements of great design. One of my Favourite shows is the Father's Day Show in Parksville, B.C.

I finally got a chance to spend a day in Beacon Hill Park in Victoria this past summer and had a blast playing with my camera in those wondeful gardens.

This past summer seemd to be my summer of the bee. They showed up regularly when I was photographing a flower. I have a large collection of pictures in my bee series.

This is another shot of one of my favourite spots to play, The Crow and Gate, in Cedar, B.C. They have beautiful grounds and wonderful gardens. There are ducks and geese wondering around, along with other birds dropping by. This is the covered walkway, looking from the entrance. The Crow and Gate is a great spot for brunch or dinner. The food is great and the portions are generous. It has a great warm atmosphere, with friendly staff and a great fireplace. if you get a chance, drop by and check it out. Here's a link to their web site; http://www.crowandgate.com/

I'd like you to meet someone special

This is Agee and she's on an adventure. Follow it on http://ageeadventure.wordpress.com/ She's an amazing girl and I had the priviledge of being able to spend three days hanging out with her, photographing her and spending time with a great crew of people who care for her.

The pictures of Agee are not for sale.

More Tofino

This is such a wondeful place to spend time. The top picture was taken at Crofton while waiting for a ferry to Saltspring Island.

I think I have Watermarking figured out

I though I'd add a touch of spring.....

Long Beach Tofino is another favourite place to walk. You can walk miles of flat open clean beach. This is a favourite place to walk. It is in the back of Cathedral Grove on Cameron Creek. The light is so beautiful

A friend located a watermarking program for me. It's user friendly and easily adjusted. So I'll be posting more pictures as I get them watermarked.

Portrait work

I have been asked frequently if I do portraits. I do. I have to scan in my old negatives to post pictures of my portrait work. I work very informally when I do portraits, candids basically. I like to get to know the people I'm taking pictures of. My mother doesn't like having her picture taken. I wanted a portrait that captured her in a way that she would be happy with. These pictures are framed in a grouping in my house. It captures my mother doing something she loves and enjoys and something all of us associate with her. i took these one day two years ago when we were sitting out in the backyard. She was working on a needlepoint and I was playing with a new lens.

I like photographing design.

I spend alot of time travelling around the island taking pictures at the numerous car shows that happen all summer long. It is not so much the cars themselves that I like to capture as much as specific design elements. As much as I enjoy the cars themselves, so often these individual elements get lost in the overall beauty of the cars. I also like deco design and the bottom two pictures are design elements from buildings in the Deco District of South Beach Miami.

Early work

I was in Chemainus visiting the show yesterday and was introduced to a local artist. She was asking about my artistic roots. I told her that I had grown up with avid photographers and a number of artists. My mother used to paint in oils, now she does incredible needlework. my brother's wife does beautiful pieces of fused glass. My oldest brother's son, has a clothing company featuring original handpainted designs. I'll post some of the links to their sites soon.

These are some of my earliset works. The pictures were taken on a March Break trip to Greece when I was 15 or 16. They were taken with my Grandfather's Leica M3 which I had inhierited.
